THIS IS A REPORT OF A FRONTAL ANGLED BARRIER OF A CALSPAN/CHRYSLER RESEARCH SAFETY VEHICLE, (RSV). THE TEST WAS COVERED BY HIGH SPEED CINE CAMERAS LOADED WITH COLOUR FILMS AND STILL PHOTOGRAPHS WERE TAKEN BEFORE AND AFTER THE TEST. ALSO THE VEHICLE WAS INSTRUMENTED WITH DUMMIES, ACCELEROMETERS AND LOAD TRANSDUCERS. THIS REPORT INCLUDES SELECTED PHOTOGRAPHS AND SPECIMEN SIGNALS FROM THE INSTRUMENTATION. FULL INFORMATION CAN BE OBTAINED FROM THE CINE FILMS, THE FULL SET OF STILL PHOTOGRAPHS, THE COMPUTER PRINT-OUT AND THE GALVANOMETER TRACES. THE REPORT ALSO COVERS THE COMPARISON BETWEEN THE RSV ANGLED BARRIER TEST, AND A CHRYSLER ALPINE THAT WAS TESTED IN A SIMILAR MANNER AT THE MIRA CRASH TEST FACILITY IN 1977. THE OBJECTIVE WAS TO ASSESS THE PERFORMANCE OF THE CALSPAN/CHRYSLER RSV IN THE CONTEXT OF CRASH WORTHINESS, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION BEING PAID TO THE OCCUPANT PROTECTION. DETAILED OBJECTIVES WERE: A) TO SUBJECT THE CALSPAN/CHRYSLER RSV TO A 60 KM/H, 30 DEG ANGLED BARRIER CRASH TEST. B) TO SUBJECT THE FRONT OF THE CALSPAN/CHRYSLER RSV PASSENGER COMPARTMENT TO IMPACTS BY AN INSTRUMENTED ALUMINIUM HEADFORM AND ANALYSED TO FMVSS 208 WITH REGARD TO THE HEAD INJURY CRITERIA. C) TO COMPARE THE RESULTS OF THE CALSPAN RSV TEST RESULTS WITH A STANDARD PRODUCTION CHRYSLER ALPINE THAT HAD BEEN CRASH TESTED AT MIRA IN 1977.
