Samenvatting

The purpose of the review is to bring together the main findings of the lorry planning studies carried out on behalf of the Department of the Environment and the Department of Transport, and to present some general conclusions of assistance to transport planners. The first part of the review summarises the general conclusions drawn from the studies on lorry planning methods and covers surveys, traffic modelling, evaluation and consultation. The second part discusses the results of a number of studies and draws general conclusions relevant to plans for small and medium towns and conurbations, non-urban lorry route networks, the enforcement of controls and long-term lorry planning measures.
