Samenvatting

The review was compiled by the corrosion and protection centre industrial services. The university of Manchester institute of science and technology (UMIST), under a transport and road research laboratory sponsored contract. The review outlines the factors which determine the rate and type of corrosion or the deterioration of materials in the soil and considers the resistance to corrosion of these materials, most likely to be employed. Although particular reference is made to conditions within reinforced earth structures, the information is of importance to any system in which materials are in contact with, or buried in, disturbed soil. Methods which can be used to reduce the corrosion of these materials are also discussed. (Author/publisher)
