Samenvatting

The Traffic Speed Deflectometer (TSD) is a device developed in Denmark that measures the response of a pavement to an applied load at traffic speeds (i.e. 80 km/h). This report looks at the applicability of the TSD to Australian conditions and practices based upon an examination of current literature and data collected during an Australian TSD trial and survey. A summary of the fundamentals of TSD technical and operation is presented along with current literature and the findings of the study. The report concludes the TSD technology is effective and is capable of measuring a typical Australian granular pavement response to load at trafficable speeds. However, it is not yet a mature technology with well-established test methodologies and equipment specifications. Findings have demonstrated that survey results are subject to a number of known and unknown influences, and robust quality management of survey operations and data processing is essential to the effective adoption and implementation of the technology. The research supported the applicability of the TSD to Australian practices and conditions. (Author/publisher)
