Samenvatting

The Rhine-Corridor is the Dutch national RDS/TMC pilot. The project started in 1991, the actual trial with 400 test drivers will be completed in 1994. This short paper describes the systems architecture and the services it offers (driver information and vehicle location). It also presents the preliminary results of the tests. Initial results reveal that for the final implementation of a TMC-service, ALERT must be completed with standards/rules for location referencing, message management and cross border functions (EUROAD concept). The acceptance of TMC by drivers heavily depends on the quality of the traffic information. For international operation of TMC it is recommended that ECMT coordinates specific functions.
