Samenvatting

The Australian Road Rules, Australian Standards and various guidelines and Codes of Practice provide the framework within which traffic engineers operate. But how well does this framework function for bicycles? Adelaide City Council has recently renewed its commitment to cyclists and pedestrians, leading to a need for higher consideration for cyclists in traffic treatments throughout the City. Four case studies have been selected to illustrate the difficulties of applying the current standards, codes and regulations principally formulated on the motor vehicles to bicycles and the problems of achieving "best practice" results in an Australian context.
