Samenvatting

Risk can be defined as "the potential for realization of unwanted negative consequences of an event". Risks in transportation have usually been given as accidents per 100 vehicle kilometers or number of persons killed or injured per 100 million passenger hours. In this paper a broader view of risk assessment in transportation is proposed: (1) injuries from both short term and long term exposure should be considered; (2) injuries of all persons involved in transportation should be 0onsidered; and (3) risks for the whole transportation chain (door-to-door) must be considered. For the covering abstract see IRRD 253224.
