Samenvatting

Early in 1971, a working group was formed within the Saab Car Division of Saab-Scania to undertake research into road accidents. The terms of reference of the group were to produce the basic material necessary for improving the safety of cars. Investigations have since been in progress continuously, and have been divided up into 12-month periods. The same selection limits have been maintained throughout, in order to obtain statistical comparison between the various periods. For practical reasons, the investigation has been confined to the most recent three model years of the Saab 99 and to accidents in which the cars sustained serious damage. This report presents the results of the first three 12-month periods, comprising a total of 477 cars and 856 occupants.
