This annual publication is the Department of Transport's major publication on road accidents. It gives statistics of road accidents and their resulting casualties. A calendar of events affecting road safety and traffic from 1903-1992 is presented. Tables are provided on accident trends 1982-1992 with some historical series. This includes statistics of vehicle population, traffic and road lengths, accidents and accident rates by road class and severity of injury, by time of accident and severity, casualty rates, vehicle and drivers involved. Detailed tables are provided that break down these statistics still further to include the effects of daylight and darkness, speed limits, weather conditions, road surface conditions, lighting conditions and vehicle and road user types (including age and sex of the road user). Each year in this publication some review articles are published. In the 1992 volume the following are included: (1) General review of personal injury road accidents in Great Britain in 1992 (Ackroyd, R.); (2) The 1992 quinquennial review of the collection of road injury accident data (Jones, D.); (3) Younger driver casualties after injury road accidents (Markey, K.); (4) High risk offenders, June 1990-February 1993 (Broughton, J.); and (5) Valuation of the reduction in risk of road accidents, 1992 revision (O'Reilly, D. and McMahon, K.). For the abstracts of these articles see C 2134 - C 2138.
