Samenvatting

This study is part of an extensive education research programme for preschool children. This report deals with the unobtrusive pre-observation and post-observation of 63 children in the company of 63 adults. The aims were three-fold. (1) evaluation of the education research programme; (2) to decide whether parents can be regarded as good models and instructors for the children they accompany, and (3) to find support for the existence of systematic behaviour patterns in adults and children. Observations were carried out at 18 different locations, mostly junctions with zebra crossings and varying traffic intensities from 12 to 1000 vehicles an hour. Most observations pertain to rather quiet locations (less than 145 veh/h).
