Samenvatting

This paper outlines the results of the first stage of an Austroads research program to examine the suitability of highway design for older driven. In particular, emphasis is given to the findings of an analysis of a series of older driver black-spot sites to determine the likely crash involvement of a number of proposed highway design changes to suit older drivers. The results clearly show scope for improving a number of road design characteristics to accommodate older driver impairments. In addition, several behavioural characteristics seemingly associated with these crashes are highlighted. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no. E202275.
