This paper reviews briefly the numbers of casualties which occur in urban and rural areas of Great Britain, the United States and other countries. The degree of urbanisation of a country is reflected in the mix of traffic casualties. The problem of classification of injuries is discussed and data is given on various clauses of casualty and their severity for accidents in urban and rural environments. This information shows the importance of pedestrian accidents in their urban areas of Britain and vehicle occupant accidents in rural areas.
