This report contains 'best practice' guidelines for road safety audits (RSA) and summarises practices which have been successfully applied in European countries or abroad. The goals of this report are to inform the reader on the reasons why carrying out audits is beneficial and how to successfully carry out road safety audits. In some cases possible alternatives or options are explained due to the fact that not all procedures match the given organisational structures in all countries or road authorities. The information provided by these guidelines is deemed to help stakeholders to decide whether the alternatives described in the report suit the given situation in his or her organisation or country. This report completes the list of available road safety audit guidelines which base upon good national or international practices. In addition to technical guidelines, this report provides recommendations on the auditor's training and on the implementation of audits into national practice. (Author/publisher)
