This paper describes the current status of RSA in Australia and New Zealand and the issues that are facing practitioners. Road Safety Audit applied to projects is now an operational activity on state roads but its uptake by local authorities is patchy. How can this uptake be increased? Training and a variety of mechanisms to ensure that auditors have the appropriate skills and experience are needed as well as more feedback to the industry from audits. Road Safety Audit applied to networks is not so well understood. An area of confusion is the range of activities that could come under this title.
