This paper outlines the process, the issues raised and counter measures involved in the conduct of road safety audits in Singapore. Road Safety audits of major arterial roads have been in progress for the past few years and about 500 kilometres are to be audited over the next few years. Frequently raised issues included the position of stop line at typical non-signalised junctions, the acute entry angle of slip roads, the open drainage channels/ditches, guardrail end treatment and the planting of vegetation. As a result of these observations, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) revised practices to mitigate or improve the situation. These include a review of the positioning of stops lines at typical non-signalised junctions, entry angle of slip roads onto major roads and improvement to guardrail end treatment.
