Samenvatting

During December 2014, a survey was issued to all the known users of our road safety statistics. The initial circulation list contained users across government departments and agencies, other public sector bodies, interested parties and academia. All recipients of the survey were encouraged to complete it in order to provide us with as wide and varied an idea of opinion on our publications. This paper summarises the findings from the December 2015 Road Safety Readership Survey which covered all of the Northern Ireland road safety reports published annually by Analytical Services Branch (ASB), Department of the Environment (DOE). The reports included were the Northern Ireland Survey of Seat Belt Wearing, the Northern Ireland Road Safety Strategy to 2020 Annual Statistical Report and the Northern Ireland Road Safety Monitor. This is the first time the Road Safety section within ASB have gathered user information for a number of publications together. At this point it is not possible to compare results with previous years. However, going forward, we do intend engaging more frequently with users. The survey was designed to gather information on how users were made aware of the publications, to provide a greater understanding of who the users of the published data are, what they use it for, what they think of the range of data published, and to gauge satisfaction with the presentation and content of the publications. This approach is in line with the requirements of the Code of Practice for Official Statistics produced and monitored by the UK Statistics Authority. The results from this survey will be used to evaluate the current presentation and content of the road safety publications and to help identify any areas where there is scope for improvement. It is hoped that this summary report will be of interest to users and stakeholders of ASB’s published road safety statistics. (Author/publisher)
