Safety technologies in transport often register personal information, andimplementation therefore challenges our acceptance for technology as wellas for privacy. The aim of the paper is to show how experts and politicians regard safety technologies that make use of personal information. Basedon 19 interviews, the authors find that such use, even if legal, are considered threatening when the number of registrations makes it impossible tomove anonymously, and when the technologies overrule the driver. Respect for privacy includes a reluctant attitude towards large amounts of personal information.
