Samenvatting

This paper considers the types of road traffic accidents which occur in Saudi Arabia and the injuries sustained by the victims. Statistics are provided by the Accident and Emergency department of the King Khalid National Guard Hospital from July 1990 to June 1991. Information recorded includes time of year, sex, age, wearing or non-wearing of seat belts, type of injury and time taken to reach hospital. Common factors were men aged less than 40, the non-wearing of seat belts and burst tires. A list of suggestions for reducing casualties is made based on these findings.
