Samenvatting

A test was done to road user reaction to a town driving beam. This light is essentially the lower beam reduced to 1 /10 intensity in order to reduce glare but still provides a distinct marker of a moving vehicle. Test persons preferred the use of the town beam to the lower beam. Results suggest that road users are critical on the present use of lower beams in well lighted streets and that the lower beam should be modified using the concept of the town beam to improve the night driving environment.
