Samenvatting
A road maintenance organization has to pay much more attention to gravel roads than to paved roads. The roads and waterways administration of Finland has carried out research in order to find the optimal gravel road condition and to minimize maintenance costs. The RWA's visual gravel road condition rating has proved to be a success. The paper describes how it is used as a management tool and how much it has decreased the amount of gravel road grading operations.
