THE ROADSIDE NOT ONLY PROVIDES MANY OBJECTS, IMPACT WITH WHICH LEADS TO DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY OF BELTED OCCUPANTS; IT ALSO CONTAINS HAZARDS THAT PREVENT DRIVERS RECOVERING CONTROL OF CARS THAT STRAY FROM THE ROAD PAVEMENT. SIDE IMPACTS - OFTEN MORE HAZARDOUS THAN FRONTAL IMPACTS TO BELT WEARERS - FORM A LARGE PROPORTION OF THE MORE SERIOUS CRASHES WITH ROADSIDE OBJECTS.
