Feeder services play a very important role in the patronage and rider ship of mass transit modes. Inadequate conventional bus based feeder system supply to Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in Delhi has led to an increasing dependence on para transit systems such as cycle rickshaws for feeder transportation around metro stations and its catchment. This paper attempts to report the results of an empirical study carried on six metro stations on Shahadra Rithala metro line 1 in Delhi. In all a sample of 300 metro users and 60 cycle rickshaws operators were enumerated to assess the metro user and cycle rickshaw operator characteristics. It is observed that cycle rickshaws on average account for a share of 23 per cent of the access/dispersal trips at the stations. These are predominantly patronized by females and the users are predominantly educated belonging to middle and high income groups. The average dispersal length by cycle rickshaw is 1.72 km and its usage is more prominent in commercial, institutional and low density residential areas where conventional supply for access/dispersal leads is not adequate or is absent.
