In Ouagadougou, the capital of Bourkina Fassa, a two-wheeled vehicle such as a bicycle or a motorcycle is at least needed to move for more than 500 metres. The indication of mobility is in the order of 3.9 for all mixed movements and 2.5 for mechanized mobility. Home to work and home to school travel represents the essential part of the mobility (more than 50% of the movements) against 30 to 40% of the movements used for social relations and leisure. The means of moving are gathered in three main groups. Environmental consequences of this mobility are huge. Ouagadougou local authorities intervene in a practical way in the execution, planning and management through road construction and maintenance services and income taxes. The English title of the paper is: "Role of the city of Ouagadougou in urban transport policy."
