Samenvatting

It has been important to support public transportation systems not only in urban transportation policy framework but also in the ITS policy package. In this paper, several interesting Japanese examples of intermodal policies related to information provision are introduced and analyzed. Cases are categorized according to the following two points: (1) whether its purpose is to enhance the attractiveness of the public transportation modes or to improve the quality of connection; and (2) whether the technique used in it is static or dynamic. The authors show through examples and studies that providing good information is effective for increasing the attractiveness of public transportation, and for facilitating easy connections between different modes of transportation.
