Samenvatting

Infrastructure has always played and still plays a dominant role in the development of every country in the world. Discussed are the marginal and structural effects of new infrastructure projects in both the industrialised world and the developing countries, the role of infrastructure projects as instruments to obtain economic goals, the need for regional planning in developing countries, and infrastructure projects and socio-economic development. As an example the infrastructure projects and socio-economic development in Surinam are described.
