High travel demands and financial resource constraints faced by developing countries necessitate regular performance evaluation and monitoring of urban bus transport systems. This paper discusses in detail the use of semantic data modeling techniques in the development of some of the most important data entry and retrieval modules for performance evaluation of urban bus transport systems. The data is structured using Entity-Relationship (E-R) diagrams and techniques in Relational Data Base Management Systems (RDBMS) for efficient storage, handling, and manipulation. A RDBMS that works on the principles of relational calculus permits the use of non-procedural structured query languages (SQL) that can enhance the productivity of database programmers to a very large extent. The work discussed in this paper is part of a comprehensive decision support system (DSS) developed and implemented using the ORACLE RDBMS. The French title of the paper is: "Rôle des SGBDR et des systèmes experts dans le développement d'un SAD pour la gestion du transport par bus".
