The role of vehicle characteristics in drivers perception of automobile velocity.

Velocity production in the absence of speedometer information is investigated as a function of car size. Experiments under normal and auditory attenuated conditions indicated greater production accuracy in small cars compared with large cars and a tendency for drivers of small cars to make greater use of auditory information.
