Samenvatting
Results of a study designed to investigate the relation between vehicle handling and accident frequency are reported. Emphasis is placed on evaluating the role of the vehicle rather than the man-car combination. Results show that in explaining the variation in the accident rate between different models of car, driver effects account for as much as 70%, if driver effects are removed from the accident rate than handling parameters explain about 35-40% of the remaining variations between models of car.
