Samenvatting

ROMANSE - ROad MANagement System for Europe - is a research and development pilot project based in Hampshire in the United Kingdom. It aims to use Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to develop the region as a model for transport systems across Europe through the European project EUROSCOPE. ROMANSE achieves this by providing real time traffic and travel information to influence travel behaviour, increase the use of public transport systems and provide high quality information for use in strategic policy decisions. The paper discusses the methodology adopted in ROMANSE to assess the impact of developing systems on the travelling public and considers the potential impacts of a wider introduction of the six key systems demonstrated by the project over the past four years. A monetary evaluation considers time saving equivalents to justify the products alongside a more traditional cost benefit analysis.
