Route optimization for winter maintenance activities : 1995-1996 field trial of roadway snow plowing (route optimization for winter control in Ottawa).

This paper was presented at the `Innovations in Highway Maintenance Activities' session. This paper preents the findings from a City of Ottawa search for an off-the-shelf software package sophisticated enough to simulate arc-routing required to model winter maintenance activites; specifically, roadway snow plowing. The paper also describes the analysis performed by the PSR Group, an Ottawa consulting firm, using the GeoRoute software and the estimated city-wide costs and savings identified from the implementation of a winter-long field trial.
