Samenvatting

Future driver assistance systems based on mobile communication are supposed to inform the driver about dangerous road and traffic conditions. Besides WLAN based ad-hoc networks, cellular systems offer automotive communication between vehicles or infrastructure via a wireless access and a core network. Previous work [1] has investigated the technology potential and delay performance of 3G HSPA technology by means of analytical and simulation studies. This paper takes on that work and evaluates the results of delay measurements during a car ride in a live public cellular network. The data traffic assessed for the measurements emanate from a prototypical implementation of a road traffic hazard warning application. This study is partof the activities of the Cooperative Cars (CoCar) project, which investigates car communication using cellular mobile communication technologies.
