The traffic-conflicts technique developed by General Motors Research Laboratories is a means for analyzing the accident potential of roadway intersections through observation and tabulation of 5 conflict categories: left-turn, weave, cross-traffic, rear-end and violation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the application of the traffic-conflicts technique to rural roadway intersections.
