Samenvatting

This report presents the results of an investigation of 23033 drivers who were tested during the period 1 February - 1 May 1975. Their blood alcohol content was analysed without any suspicion of influence of alcohol. The results show that 1. the occurrence of influence of alcohol is very small with drivers who never have been involved in traffic offences or road accidents and 2. the occurrence of influence of alcohol is 26 times higher with drivers who have been involved in traffic offences and 19 times higher with drivers who have been involved in road accidents than drivers who never have been involved in any road accident. The blood alcohol contents are throughout higher in drivers with more advanced alcohol habits and alcohol problems are considerably more marked.
