During 1999 and 2000, experiments in the Dutch city of Almelo have taken place with respect to the usefulness of Sabimos (Satellite based information and management system). Using this global positioning system (GPS) buses can control traffic lights. The system is cheaper than the more traditional systems like Vetag (Vehicle Tagging) and offers several other advantages. The system may be useful with regard to new dynamic bus stations. In a series of tests Sabimos has been compared with Vetag. Besides, the possibilities for applying Sabimos to bus stations have been tested. In this paper, the results of those tests are described. (A)
