The intent of this guide is to provide examples of noteworthy Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program practices and management approaches from a variety of states. As part of the development process, five key management areas are identified that depict the nature of the management of SRTS programs and are used to organize the practices within the guide: 1) Program Structure, 2) Outreach, Marketing, and Education, 3) Project Selection, 4) Project Implementation, and 5) Project Closeout. The noteworthy practices identified in the guide have been implemented by several state SRTS programs. Practices range from the innovative ways to work with advocacy groups to streamlining authorization for projects. These practices provide strategies for states to consider to effectively and efficiently structure and deliver state SRTS programs. The guide was completed in partnership with the National Center for Safe Routes to School with funding from the FHWA SRTS program. (Author/publisher)
