Samenvatting

Injuries to the lower extremities of front-seat occupants have been reduced by improvements in instrument panels of the newer domestic cars. These improvements include removing or flattening objects and control knobs, relocating or removing underlying structure that added rigidity to the panel, and using materials - primarily sheet metals - that have excellent energy absorption properties. In addition, increased amounts of energy distributing material have reduced injury.
