Samenvatting

During recent years it has become recognised in Germany that the road user is a consumer of services offered by the authorities. For a typical German highway there is a variety of authorities that have to work hand in hand. Communication between them may not be satisfactory and the demands and needs of one authority may not be known by the others. With this as a background the motorway police office of Hagen, Germany, developed the idea of a Public Partnership for the motorway A45. Partners responsible or involved in work with the services or safety of the motorway were included. As part of the work a questionnaire was designed and distributed to drivers of the motorway in order to identify problem areas. The survey received much attention in the media and respondents were positive towards it. The paper presents questions and answers. The survey covered mainly safety and security together with more general questions of different services such as rest areas, emergency phones etc. It is concluded that the model for co-operation between partners involved may be useful for others and that the survey itself provided the authorities with lots of useful data.
