Mit der Entscheidung, die C1 zu entwickeln, erschliesst BMW ein neues Marktsegment im Zweiradbereich und betritt damit Neuland. Ziel ist die Entwicklung eines neuen Fahrzeugtyps, der für erhöhte Mobilität - besonders im Stadtverkehr - sorgen soll. Gleichzeitig stellt sich BMW der Herausforderung, den Begriff Zweiradsicherheit neu zu definieren. Schon das erste Lastenheft für die C1 enthielt die Vorgabe, den Unfallschutz deutlich zu erhöhen. Der Zuwachs an Mobilität sollte einhergehen mit verbessertem Unfallschutz auf höchstmöglichem Niveau. Dazu reichen Detailverbesserungen an bestehenden Sicherheitskonzepten nicht aus. BMW begibt sich nicht in ein bestehendes Marktsegment an Motorrollern, sondern bringt eine völlig neue Fahrzeugkategorie hervor. English abstract: With its decision to develop the C1 BMW open up a new two-wheel segment. This decision means breaking new ground at BMW. The objective is to create a new element designed to increase mobility, especially in city traffic. At the same time, however, the challenge is accepted to redefine the term vehicle safety on two wheels. Even the first target catalogue for the C1 contained the task to bing about a distinct improvement in accident protection. The gain in mobility should be concurrent with increased accident protection at the highest possible standards. This cannot be achieved through superficial optimisation of existing concepts.
