Samenvatting

The safety performance of very small cars is a big challenge in modern vehicle design. Basic physics requires entirely new concepts for such small vehicles in order to meet the safety standards of normal-sized cars and to achieve crash compatibility. This paper outlines the safety concept for very small cars using the example of the Opel MAXX. The structural design and the restraint system are discussed, together with computer simulations of the crash behaviour. (A)
