Samenvatting

Advanced incident warning systems based on telematics are introduced in traffic management systems to help handle the effects of different types of disturbances. The safety effects of such systems have until now been largely unknown. The HOPES frameworks of safety evaluation have been applied and preliminary results are available. Two perspectives are used in the work, that of the drivers and that of the traffic management. In order to identify and address safety relevant questions, the whole chain of information flow is tackled; from incident detection, control room operations and roadside messages to the reactions of drivers in traffic.
