This issue of Current Topics includes over 70 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the design, specification and testing of mainly bicycle and motorcycle crash helmets and their effectiveness in ameliorating head injuries. Subjects also covered include crash helmet wearing rates; rider attitudes; the importance of correctfit, size and wearing style; effectiveness of publicity campaigns, national policy and legislation for helmet use. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 2004 and 2008. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database.
