Samenvatting

Increases in the number of motor vehicles in Romania are related to an increasing trend for accidents. Testing of vehicles has been amended to increase conformity with EU and international regulations, to meet additional technical regulations for the transport of hazardous materials, and to improve testing of agricultural and forestry vehicles. Testing now includes seat belts which must be provided with a pretensioner, wide angle mirrors and parking mirrors on lorries, strips of reflectorised material on long and heavy vehicles, and special regulations for right hand drive vehicles. New regulations for the periodic inspection of vehicles are described. These include the accreditation and organisation of inspection stations. Problems with old vehicles, poor testing equipment and abuse of the testing procedure are described.
