Samenvatting
There are those who argue against requiring cyclists to wear safety helmets by law, claiming that encumbrances like helmets contradict the essence of the bicycle which in many respects is indeed the freedom machine. However, the argument against legislating for helmets is simply not an appropriate response when one is constrained to cycle in an environment structured for cars, not bikes. The essence of safe cycling in a motorised environment is therefore to recognise the conflicting environment and to act accordingly.
