Samenvatting

In the multinational Sartre project a vast number of interviews were conducted with European drivers to study their attitudes to traffic and traffic safety. The interviews consisted of about 200 questions each, and in the whole project 17430 interviews were carried out in about 16 countries in Western and Central Europe. The main topics were speeds, seat belts and alcohol, but the interviews also covered some more general traffic safety issues, as well as some questions concerning self-reported behaviour. As an introduction the report contains a very brief account of the Sartre project together with a number of comments regarding the limitations of the study and the obtained data. The major part of the report contains 144 tables, each giving the results of a single question of the interview. The results are presented as total response distributions for each participating country, supplemented with average or median results for male and female, young and old drivers of each country.
