Samenvatting

In 1995 the project "YES - Say YES to Safer Driving" was launched by the European Union in co-operation with the European Road Safety Federation in the framework of the "Year of the Young Driver". The reason for this comprehensive, European-wide road safety programme for the age group of 17/18- to 25-year old drivers is the fact that each year about 13,000 young drivers lose their lives and more than half a million are injured on European roads. YES, now in its third year, is carried out together with the two worldwide parent organisations of all automobile and touring clubs AIT (Alliance Internationale de Tourisme) and FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile), with the association of the European car manufacturers ACEA (Association des Constructeurs Européens d'Automobile), the parent organisation of the European road safety institutions PRI (Prévention Routière Internationale) and is supported at a national level by the automobile clubs. In 1996 and 1997 the AIT & FIA Foundation carried out the following two project parts: (1) a concept competition asking young drivers between 17/18 and 25 years of age from all over the European Union for their ideas, proposals, and concepts on how to improve road safety within their age group (for this see separate report "Concept competition & YES Award); and (2) a Delphi Study: "Future Trends in Road Safety among Young Drivers". The following gives a methodical description of a Delphi Study and the results. (A)
