Samenvatting

Switching from car to public transport causes a decrease in mobility, as we found in Verkeerskunde 6/83. (See B 22159). In 1981 car-owning households spent 13.2% of the family budget on transport. For no car-owning households the percentage was 3. If in 1981 all car trips would have been substituted by public transport households and government together would have payed Dfl 3.1 billion (before taxation even 9.4 billion). Reduction of the expenditure on transport to a 3% ceiling would have a negative influence on the economic recession.
