The objective of the study reported in this paper is to find the safest means of transport for school children including walking, school or public buses, as well as privately owned vehicles. A study area in the city of Amman, Jordan incorporating 30 private schools using 370 buses was chosen by the author. Behavior of drivers was observed and analyzed. Accidents of school buses were compared with those of other means of transport. Analysis showed accidents per other vehicles were higher than those of school buses, but private and public buses accidents were less than school buses. Injured persons per accident are the highest for pedestrians followed by other vehicles, school buses and public and private buses. School buses could be made safer if certain measures are taken by school administration concerning drivers, students and escorts.
