Samenvatting

A number of schools in Goulburn have completed the Roads and Traffic Authority's (RTA) Safer Routes To School (SRTS) program, identifying engineering and behavioural road safety hazards which could increase the chance of students being involved in a crash. While these hazards can be addressed to some degree by the school itself, Goulburn City Council and the RTA, it is also very important to ensure that the general public continues to receive information about these hazards in the hope of increasing road safety. The Safer Routes To School program takes approximately 12 months to complete, with a follow-up visit from consultants six months later. Schools are then left to continue with the program by themselves. Most schools, including those which haven't completed the SRTS program, already utilise the RTA's well-resourced road safety teaching kits, ensuring that students receive valuable road safety education.
