Samenvatting

This paper describes an analytical technique that compares the actual performance of the vehicle structure in absorbing crash energy with an idealised (perfect) performance. The same methodology is applied to the restraint system performance. This can be used as basis of an objective assessment of the vehicle's crashworthiness within the constraints of its particular design. Such an analysis can direct designers to focus on areas of the vehicle that can be improved, such as crush structure and/or particular parts of the restraint system. (A)
