Samenvatting

An investigation has been carried out of the accuracy of the SCOOT traffic model at a variety of links in Southampton. The SCOOT urban traffic control system has been found to offer significant delay savings over alternative systems and its installation is increasing in cities both in the UK and overseas. SCOOT receives on- line traffic information from detectors on each link in the network. This is processed within a traffic model which calculates signal timings aimed at minimising overall delay in the network The operational performance of the system thus depends largely on the accuracy of both the detector information and the SCOOT traffic model.
